Any ideas out there?

You can get a small demagnetizer for tools like this:

Nearlly all transformers have a huge magnetic field around them. Instead of
passing each hook thru the little tool.... take the whole box and bring them
next to an active transformer, preferably one that lowers voltage from say,
120 to 24. Nearly ALL sprinkler irrigation clocks use them. Hold the box
closely for a few seconds and then back well away from the transformer, at
least 3-4 feet. Now check for magnetism... probably gone.
I personally use an old "personal" vibrator, [and not the sex
type..... ] with the moving parts removed and the case replaced. Fifty
cents at garage sales and flea market sales..... Has a TON of uses... disks,
tapes, screwdrivers, etc.
