Closed Fishing Season

What do you think about the closed season now, do you think it should be
abolished and is out dated, or do you think its a good thing, I can not
really make my mind up but I do really miss fishing my local river on, I
know you can still fish some canals and Stillwater's but I miss the river.
I belong to three local clubs which provide in total 10 lakes (size 3 to 25
acres) a fair few miles of river fishing and one small section of canal. The
rivers and canal have the traditional close season as do 3 of the lakes. At
all the clubs the efforts of the club's working parties (which operate all
year regardless) and in some instances the EA keep all venues in tip top
condition. I notice little (if any) difference in the overall
condition/welfare of either the bankside or fish. However, these waters do
have a limited membership (some allow guest ticket with member) so can not
really be compared to commercial day ticket ponds which get hammered all the
time, and are Imo over stocked .... what I call clockwork fisheries.
BTW the close season doesn't (Ime) match spawning period too well anyway,
and may do worse in the future.
Ah well the close season on 2 lakes I fish at least gives the resident
otters a peaceful period for a good feed !!!!!
