One method is to simply run the hook through the bottom portion of the
tail and out through the top portion. Another way is to start under the
tail at the rear and run the hook in then out as you would a plastic
worm but leaving the hook exposed. Keep in mind the latter will leave
the hook pointing down where the former has the hook facing up. Bottom
composition should dictate which methods you use. The trick is to
always keep the hook in the meaty portion of the tail so as not to kill
the crawfish.


Driving a hook through the meaty part of the tail seems counter-intuitive
considering you want the mudbug to live and to move about.

Anyone ever try just "Crazy Glue"ing a hook to the back of a crawdaddy?

Putting the hook through the tail is the best method to allow the
crawdad to live as there are no vitals there. The only time they use
the tail is to rapidly dart backwards to avoid becoming prey. As a
matter of fact they can still move around very well hooked that way and
you actually have to give them a slight pull every few minutes to keep
them from crawling under something.
