Default Fishing Rod Advice

Mark W. Oots entered the world pub known as rec.outdoors.fishing and said...

Jay,

I agree that you can get a combo at Walmart, but I'd recommend spending a
little more than 15 bucks. Using really cheap equipment will turn you off on
fishing.

Brands, actions and looks are subjective, so go handle a bunch and see what
you like. I'd recommend a 6 ft or 6'6" medium power spinning combo. Spool it
with 8 lb test and have fun.

Good luck!

I was probably just lucky when I bought that one for my son, he didn't want
it after a few months, and I was surprised to find it worked so well. Been
using it for about a dozen years now and think it cost me in the $10 range
when I bought it. I do have to clean it and keep it lubed more then my other
reels though.
