So how is that different from any other reasonably modern OS? At least
with Mac OS and Linux you don't have to worry about the download
infecting you with a virus while you're working on something else.


That's mainly because Linux and Mac aren't popular enough for the
hackers to make the efforts needed to spread viruses. If either system
was used as widely as as Microsoft, they'd be the ones that were getting
hit.
