btw, in today's brief read in harrison's book (in "True North"), he
wrote a bit about "Bruce's [sic]Crossing" and the middle branch of

the
Octanogon... (also the fence river around iron mountain)

apparently bruce crossing was once actually "bruce's crossing", but

in
1880s or therabouts the possessive was dropped. (harrison didn't say
that, i remember that from something i read somewhere, and he made

the
typical mistake with the name - suggesting he probably hasn't spent

much
time there)


And, to add a Machiavellian shibboleth, the natives always refer to it
simply as Bruce's. However, given the.......um......idiosyncratic
local pronunciation, the latter is probably overkill anyhow.
