Default Spinnerbaits

No doubt buddy. I still don't know how they filmed the scene both above &
below the water level at the same time. Any ideas?

No need to defend yourself Warren... Just some semantics antics! :-)

I understand as well as anyone around here that you have a *really* solid
idea of what you're talking about!

...and in regards to the Lau series, *every* serious bass angler should

give
themselves the advantage that his films present!

OK Andrew - while I may have rushed my thoughts on this, in my defense:

Your "e" could be incorporated into my "d".

Your "g" could be incorporated into my "b".

Your "h" could be incorporated into my "a".

As for your "f", I didn't want to suggest that as a possibility though

it
is
a possibility.

I've seen Lau's film, it is spectacular & way ahead of its time. The

bass
in his film "spit" out the lure without the angler feeling the bite.

The
poster in this thread suggested that he had indeed felt the bite & had

the
fish hooked before any spitting took place.

Happy New Year Andrew!

Warren... I usually agree with just about everything you post....but

not
on
this one!

4 reasons is oversimplification at best. There are at least a couple

more
reasons fish come "unbuttoned" (do they really get "buttoned" any more

then
they can "spit" a hook?). I consider none of the following to really

fall
under the bad luck option...except maybe (e)...

e) short strikes, resulting in the fish barely getting skin hooked.

f) inferior angler - i.e. poor fish playing skills (slack in line)

g) lack of attention to sharpness of hooks after extended use (and

abuse)

h) inferior drag settings (i.e. Too light, or "hole-tearing" too

tight)

Also, fish absolutely do spit hooks, if you consider expelling water

from
their mouth spitting...just watch the Glenn Lau series "Bigmouth".

You
can
watch a fish spit out a whole mouthful of treble hook loaded

crankbait...

"Spit the hook". I love that term. Bass NEVER spit the hook, or

anything
else for that matter. Fish coming unbuttoned do so for four

reasons-

a) inferior tackle

b) inferior hooks

c) inferior hooksets

d) bad luck

"d" is the least common cause.

I'll give you the poor man's version. I recently went to Sports
Authority
and saw spinner baits for 99 cents. The brand was The Classics.

They
looked pretty good so I bought a couple, went home and tossed a

few
from
the
shore of a small lake in my neighborhood. I had six hits in one

hour,
landed
three 20 ouncers, two spit the hook before I got them to shore and

one
was
just a hit. I went back and bought thirty.

I feel about baits like some people (including me) feel about line

in
the
recent thread on that topic. Bass just ain't that smart. If they

are
hitting a certain color and blade style of spinnerbait, they'll

hit
any
brand of spinnerbait in that color and style. I might even go as

far
to
say
that if they are hitting spinnerbaits, they'll hit any

spinnerbait.
Same
goes for worms, cranks, jigs, etc. So many lures are overpriced.

IMHO.

I am very new to bass fishing and am wanting to build my arsenal

of
lures.
I have $100 to spend on spinnerbaits and maybe buzzbaits. I was
wondering
if you guys and gals could advise me on colors, blades, sizes,

hooks,
skirts, etc. I mainly fish stained lakes in IL. How do you all

tote
and
store your spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. thanks a million
