Yes That rule is enforced. They are pretty strict about it.
If you are staying by sturbridge then Quaboag and south pond and the Quaboag
river that connects them offer great bass fishing. Those are a must hit.
Also you might want to look at Buffumville in Charlton.

Actually, I'll be West of Worcester, in Southbridge/Charlton, so
Congamond is not to far.
I have been researching the lakes everyone has mentioned, and think
Congamond is my best bet. A-1 and Quabbin Res. looked promising, until I
read the limits on motor size. Quabbin doesn't allow anything over 25
horse,
(mine's a 40h Mariner.) Also, Quabbin has some fairly large off limits
areas
that I would not like to accidently enter, not knowing if they are clearly
marked.
I also read the Congamond By-Laws. It state that no boats can go
faster
than 10mph on Sat & Sun before 10 AM (never heard of this before). Is this
rule in force on the lake?
Thanks for all the info, and would gladly entertain other ideas as well.

I would have bet money that it was within the 50 miles John specified,
but
it turns out that it's more like 70! I'm shocked that I'm closer to
Congamond here on the shore of LAke Zoar than Worcester is.
And you're right about the pressure. But the fishing pressure has never
bother me there. Just ther #@#$#$ ski boats.
