Regardless, they were both devils. I am no friend of the
conservative/reform group, and would never vote for them, but I have to
say that I absoultely hate Paul Martin and his liberals. It is still
unfathomable to me that he could win after the levels of corruption,
greed, and patronage that plagued his and his predecessor's governments.
cosing up to the neo-con, social dinosaur, hard right of the old
Reform Party, the Conservatives lost a significant proportion of the
old PC vote and that did them in. Never has a Liberal government been
this vulnerable on so many fronts and the Conservatives blew it by
having a vacuum where their policy platform was supposed to be. The
Liberals filled the vacuum with their negative ads, painting Harper as
a man who sell the country out. When the voter went behind the screen,
they couldn't bring themselves to pull the trigger on Martin, and
given what Harper and his gang offered us (or failed to offer us), you
can't blame them.

BTW, his buddy Ralph did a nice job of shooting him in the back.
Be nice to Ralph. He is the fisherman's friend after all. His government
is responsible for the widespead adoption of catch and relewase
angling on our east slope cutthroat streams, and we now have province
wide barbless hooks regulations cause Raplh went fishing at a lodge that
required barbless hooks.
