IMO, a 4wt would be fine for hauling in 10, 12, 14" small stream smallmouth
and trout, but would be too small for throwing the #6 streamers, buggers,
and such, that are so successful on smallmouth. I prefer a 6wt for this
reason, and think a 5wt would be a good compromise if you're looking to go
with lighter gear.
