Well Ken will tell you there are no hatches in the Rockies in September.
However, it is one of my favorite months. This year, I think the fishing
here in CO, at least, will be excellent. We've had some significant
precipitation throughout most of the Summer and the rivers have
maintained VERY good levels. My home river is just now approaching what
is prime for me.
In terms of hatches, the Mayflies tend to be smaller in size. The PMD's
are smaller and the Olives are starting to come out again. There are
also a variety of caddis about.
But if you want to hit a specific hatch in September, try and hit the
black caddis hatch on the Bighorn.
