I know polarized. but what else should I be looking for when replacing
my sunglasses? What color and brands are you using?

I need opinions/sugestions before spring gets here and the water gets
soft again.

Hi Kurt,

I used to suscribe to the theory of buy the cheapest polarized sunglasses
that you could find because inevitably they would be sat on, dropped
overboard or otherwise trashed.

Then one year, my kids chipped together and got me a pair of H30 sunglasses
with interchangeable lenses. These cost around $50 and were surprisingly
much better. They come with dark and light gray, plus amber lenses. I
found that the amber lenses were being used 90% of the time, so I just stuck
with them.

I had a client loose his sunglasses so we went to the local tackle shop to
get him another pair. All they had in stock was Costa Del Mar glasses. He
plunked down the $100 bucks with much ribbing from me. After a while, we
switched glasses because he kept raving about how much more he could see. I
was amazed at the difference between my $50 glasses and the Costas. I went
back and bought a pair and have been wearing them ever since.

When I was at ICAST last July, I had a chance to try on some Kaenon glasses.
I was VERY impressed with these as well. I found the frames to be quite
comfortable and the optical clarity of the lenses was fantastic.

Do you really need a pair of expensive sunglasses? I suppose that can only
be answered by you. However, I think that as long as I have only one pair
of eyes, I'm going to spend a bunch to protect them. The glare off the
water can be brutal, I've found I suffer much less eye fatique and headaches
since I've gotten better lenses. I've also found that when you drop in
excess of $100 for a pair of sunglasses, you have a tendency to take better
care of them too.
