would have been happy to e-mail him, except that i have been having trouble
sending stuff with the new e-mail account i set up (you know, to avoid
accidentally posting e-mails to roff?)
thanks, for the tip, though :-)

Why don't you invest in a FREE account such as yahoo or hotmail? You
can have a free email account (yahoo has 100MB of storage for free) and
never have to worry about sending emails to ROFF.

anyway, i dare say, i'd rather see one roffian ping another with some happy,
kindly, helpful, friendly, *whatever*, content than to see this vile ****
that has been going around here lately. some folks need to get out and fish
more. that said, i expect to be in the water in about fifteen minutes.

While that may be true, such useless pings do nothing more than clutter
up ROFF with things that other people really don't give a **** about. I
am not trying to be mean or anything so don't take this the wrong way,
but you are merely wasting bandwidth and degrading the usefulness of
pings. Before too long, instead of "the boy who cried wolf," we will
have "the snake that cried ping." g

Yeah, you did. Others often read these pings so that they can assist
should it become necessary. Example, I pinged Tom Brown a couple of
weeks ago because I didn't have his current email address and wanted to
get ahold of him. He eventually responded to the thread which means he
got the ping and I did receive an email from Tom so that I could reach
him via email. Had he never responded and/or not been posting to ROFF
anymore, someone else may have noticed and given me his email address so
that I could contact Tom directly. You basically got caught up in the
ol' "newbie thinks pings are cool because they are something new and
then proceeds to **** them up" routine and others are merely trying to
teach you their proper uses, etc.

Shall I start up a new thread titled "Ping - Snakefiddler" so that I can
further explain pings? ;-) Yeah, I could have emailed this to you but
then others who are newbies who are likely to repeat the mistake
wouldn't learn from this. My guess is that Tim was trying to teach you
something (he wasn't trying to be a dick IMO) and hoping that you would
pick up on what he *wasn't* saying because so far nobody has told you
that your pings are getting annoying. Useless pings do nothing more
than clutter up ROFF with useless crap that could, and should have, been
taken care of via email. I think you have used more pings in the last
month than I have in the last two years..... What's even worse is that
all of your pings have been things that should have been sent directly
to the recipient via email to begin with. Your excuse of "didn't want
to accidentally send the email to ROFF" makes absolutely no sense. If
you are afraid of sending emails to ROFF, then use one program as a news
reader and another for email so that emails and posts can never mix.

Please don't take any of this the wrong way because I am just trying to
help you out and explain things. Given the number of emails we have
exchanged, I should hope that you know me well enough to realize I am
not trying to be mean, insulting, degrading, etc and am merely trying to
be helpful.
