I think we should as a group adopt a charity.
Our bass club has done something similar. We hold a fishing derby for kids
from the Indianapolis chapter of Brooke's Place,
www.brookesplace.org. These
kids have a blast fishing a private park lake for bass, bluegill and catfish
and the fishing is always good.
I usually get about a dozen or so companies out of the 100 or so I write to
donate baits/rods/reels for prizes. I also get a few companies to give us huge
breaks on tackle so that we can re-sell them in raffles and auctions to raise
money to get more prizes.
We also give away tackle at the Casting Kids competition we hold at the boat
show and this year we plan to start holding a fishing derby/clinic for the Girl
Scouts at Camp Dellwood in Indianapolis.
It is VERY rewarding working with these kids. If you haven't tried doing
similar things, you do not know what you are missing.
