Default Need HELP with repairing bait casting reel

My bait casting reel sticks on the worm gear won't move back and
forth to allow the line to go out right when casting. I can get it to
move when I put pressure on the line as I wind it in. Wondering if
there are any GOOD books I might get out of a library that show how
to repair reels. Any information is appreciated. Tight lines to
all. nlcatfish

nlcatfish,

Look at the underside of the line guide on your reel. There's a threaded
cap, unscrew that. Inside, you'll find a small cylindrical part called a
Level Wind Pawl. I'd be willing to bet quite a bit that this part is worn.
It's quite common and I replaced one today in one of my Abu Garcia 6500's.

See if there's a reel repair business in your area. Tell the person there
what kind of reel you have and that you need a pawl. Chances are, you'll
have the part for less than $5.00, and the repair only takes a minute. If
there's not a reel repair business in your area, do an internet search on
reel repair. You'll be able to buy the part easily.
