Re yourquestion about hook sizes

My personnal theory for the /0 suffis is that having got hook sizes as large
as 1 on a decending scale, there was only one way to go in respect of larger
sizes and that was upwards again but now with aan indicator such as /0 ....
to indicate that the sizes were still increasing.

This idea obviously gainje popu;lae acceptance and has become an un-disputed
standard.

I am working on discovering who, where and when the system started.

Out of interest has anyone any evidence of firstly a hook size O
and
secondly of hooks with an uneven size number.

Thank you for you e-mail. Regretfully there is no mathematical
relationship between the hook sizes. This varies from qualtity to quality.

The origin of the suffix "/0" is most likely Mustad, but we have had these
sizes for ages and no one can really tell if it's Mustad origin or another
origin. We started our hooks production in 1877 and a lot of other hook
manufacturers have copied both our reference numbers and sizing.

As for the odd sizes, we still have these for some qualities, but these
sizes have been deleted from several ranges the last years due to poor
sales. If you want to find out if a special quality has odd sizes, please
