I am looking for a first fly-rod for my 10 year old. I'd appreciate
any advice on hardware as well as advice on how to teach.

I suspect that a 7 and 1/2 foot 5-weight is the way to go. I will
probably get the cheapest reel. Woulod a slow action rod or medium
action be best?

Cabela's is sold out of their youth combo which is only $99 or I'd
probablt get that.

Any suggestions.

I wouldn't skimp on length. Eight feet would be my minimum.
