Most charter skippers wont return to shore for sea sick kids (or adultS!!).

They will if it looks really bad but if they do they risk complaints from
all the other anglers and maybe calls for refunds too. Go to your doctor
beforehand and ask him to prescribe some anti-seasickness patches in case.

Wrap up warm, gets very chilly at sea.

Wrap up dry...can get wet and it might rain.

Go to the harbour and have a look at the boats going out. Try to get one
with a wheelhouse THAT YOU CAN GO IN.

Read the ads in sea fishing and boat angling magazine/s. Call a few
skippers up and talk to them.

That's the best idea. Tell them you're a beginner and that you are bringing
a youngster. Ask them to suggest the best trip and ask to hire suitable
tackle and bait. That way they won't mix you in with a boatload of diehards
wanting to go miles out to a distant wreck. You may wind up with other
beginners on a shorter inshore trip where although the fishing may not be
quite as good you have a decent chance of catching something -and- keeping
your breakfast. You may find that one local skipper specialises in such
trips.

If the skipper gets it right you'll be back for more and maybe one day
you'll be one of those diehards.

Cheerio,
