Does anyone build their own leaders?

I use the same leader butt forever and build it from there, because I'm
cheap. Many of us here use Tectan monofilament spooled onto Rio spools
; -). Tectan, from Cabelas, isn't all that abrasion resistant but it's
cheap. As much as I like saving money, the part I really like is winding
about 150 yards of tippet onto one spool and rarely running out when I'm
fishing. My friend just gave me about 150 yards of P Line flourocarbon,
apprx. 5x, and it's pretty good stuff too.

Randy,
I tied a bunch of leaders accoring to the recipes around the web and they
worked fine. Now I just tie some of this and that from heavy to light in
about the lengths I think are appropriate for the water and they work fine
too. for the tippet, I tie on the lightest line that will not break on the
rise (I hope).
Also, if in a rush, tie on a 8' or 9' tapered leader and ad the tippet
material on to the end for the length desired.
I know. Not scientific but it works fine for me.
(be sure the fly is tied to the tippet with a clean knot without any kinky
tippet material in front of the fly).

Where are all the people here who jump all over somebody for "top
