Default Does anyone build their own leaders?

Hey all,

I usually just buy the prepackaged leaders but was wondering what if
any, are the advantages / disadvantages of "rolling your own" leaders?

For dry fly work there isn't much point in rolling your own. I, like, I
think, many other roffians, use a tapered leader one lb. weight heavier
than the point I'll be fishing - so often a 4lb. tapered leader. To
that I tie a foot or three of 3 lb. mono. You keep snipping the tippet
shorter and shorter until you have to attach another one.

There are more reasons for making your own if you are, say, fishing a
team of wet flies from a clinker-built boat in a good wave on one of
the great loughs of the west of Ireland - the Corrib, say, or Mask.
