Default Trailer Brakes

Hey all, I have trailer brakes on my ranger, and I have a plug on the
trailer, I was wondering what do I have to buy in order to be able to
use the trailer brakes???
Is there some device I will need to buy to accomodate them?

Any help would be awesome.

Hi Chris,

Unless there has been a change, the only thing you need besides the
light plug is the little plug that tells the trailer your backup lights
are on. It will then release the brakes so you can back up.

When you hitch up, reach under the tongue and push in on the button a
couple times to release the brakes. That might not be quite correct
about releasing them, but it's necessary to prevent them from draggin
supposedly.

What you have are hydraulic surge brakes. No outboard device is
necessary. No electronic controllers etc. When you slow down, it
compresses the tongue on the trailer and activates the brakes on the
trailer. The harder you push on the tow vehicles brakes the more
pressure applied to the trailer also.

You also have a manual switch. That is the aluminum knob with an arrow
on it on the top of your tongue. It has a release point that should
also allow a vehicle to back up when it doesn't have the backup light plug.
