JR, I recognize some things from your pictures. All those streams over
there and I never can get them all 'straight' anyway.
I loved your TR, and I also have a trip planned to the same fishery in
March. Anytime I can catch "lots and lots of smallish fish", I be happy.
4
weight, an indicator (fi'n they ain't takin' drys) with short leader (4'
is
about right I think) seems it might work eh?
JR, I'm jealous of the trip and wishing I could get out. Something always
comes up to stop the trip.
Padishar, don't know about matching the hatch, but it was kind of nice to
have the guides following us around trying to figure out how you did that
salmon thing when no one else was hooking up.
Padishar, even nymphing, I'd go with a longer leader than that; 8-9 ft
5x is fine in most circumstances and if you go to small dries or tiny
nymphs you can add a bit of 6x or 7x. In general, though, the fish are
not tippet shy. A fellow on the Westfly forum recommended fishing small
egg patterns in riffles below where one has located a pods of whitefish.
Somehow it never occurred to me to thing of egg patterns there, but I
think I'll be carrying a few on my next outing.
Anyhow, if either of you does makes the trip down and wants company,
give me a ping here.
