Over the winter I started dabbling in trying to make handmade crankbaits. I
have already carved out 4 different bodies. All from balsa. Now I am sorta
stuck and don't know which way to go.
Balsa plug bodies should be carved in two mirro image pieces. They will not
work without some lead in them to give them a bit of weight around the center
of gravity. The BEST way to hang the hooks is off an internal wire harness.
Several coats of quality balsa sealer/filler will give you a hard enough base
finish, and there are any number of very hard clear coats to go over your
actual color pattern coats with.
