BassHunter called me up the other day and invited me to go fishing in one
of his favorite backwaters. First thing I want to say is, "THANK YOU." I
had a great time.

He's got a smaller boat, and at first I was a little uncomfortable, but by
the end of the evening I was standing up and fishing just fine.
Surprisingly we got on a little bit of a topwater bite after sunset. I had
five definite bites on top, but only got one in the boat. BassHunter put
two in the boat on top, and several more on his favorite crankbait earlier
along with one of those big sunfish we all would like to catch when we
target those guys.

He easily caught 2-3 times as many fish as I did. He also caught the first
fish and the biggest fish. Cost me 3 bucks. Teach to me offer my standing
bet to somebody on their favorite home water. LOL.

No big fish, but this one was what I would call a solid 3. I think I'll
put this pic in the hall of shame as well. Poor guy has "Been fishing with
Bob."

You know you are in decent company when you have a bit of adversity and
just adjust. We had a little battery issue so we couldn't use the trolling
motor most of the evening. He just dug out a couple oars and moved the
boat from time to time with a stroke or two. We took turns advancing the
boat around and it worked out great. I wouldn't want to fish a tournament
that way for 8+ hours, but for a few hours in the evening we hardly
noticed any inconvenience at all. A great guy to fish with.

Got a little of my own back. BassHunter called me again and this time we
took The Tin Can. (I just realized The Tin Can is seven (7) years old.) We
hit a different backwater he hadn't fished before and I have only fished
once this year. Not much luck there. I got a dink for first fish by
tossing a senko to a weed edge cruiser, but that was it. We fished the
backwater from end to end. Well the accessible part of it anyway. It was
pretty choked with floating vegetation. We decided to try someplace else.
I knew of a branch channel a mile or so up the main river from where we were
so we used the push pole to get out to the main river and lit her up.

The mouth of the channel I wanted to fish was way to shallow for even The
Tin Can. Ok I could have walked it in, but I'm solidly middle aged and
spending an evening fishing with cold wet feet doesn't thrill me much. I
had spotted a nice pocket and break on the other side of the river though.
I picked a dink off the corner with a popper, and nailed our only "keeper"
size fish back in the pocket with a frog. It hit once through the floating
mat, and then again when I dragged it off the mat. The only other good bite
out in the current was also on the frog. I had a riser up between some logs
that were creating a current break, but failed to hook up even when the fish
had the frog under water.

Nothing flipping, and I spent some time flipping good baits in good spots.
Nothing on a crank bait. One on a senko. One on a frog. One on a popper.
Had three hits on the frog and three or four hits on the popper. BassHunter
had a couple rises on his frog as well.

All of my frog and popper bites except one where when the bait was sitting
still for a few seconds.
