Default Fly tying rules: in or out?

Da a ¨¦crit :

I have a question to ask whether we should strictly follow the tying
rules or just use your imagination to tie what you want to tie and
have fun. You know, even some patterns I have seen do not follow the
rules but they still could catch fish. So what are your comments?

Call a rose a rose, a cat a cat.

I'm with you when it comes to tying for fun and to capture fish, but
don't call your fly an Adams when it's not. If you tie a Royal Wulff, do
it the way it's creator intended it to be done; if not call it anything
you want but not a Royal Wulff, because it's not one.

I still think your fly was nice but all wrong for a Adams, wrong body
colour, the hackle and tail were too large, overdress and it would
probably not float like the Adams is suppose to float.
