I crowd the eye already, now you are saying that I am going to have
deal with a "widening flat area"????? bseg I bought some quick
eye hooks once and didn't like them because they came off at the
most inopportune time. Did the article mention any drawbacks to the
widening flat method?

It clearly wasn't as good as an eye, and you have to get the right taper so
the snell doesn't come off.
