I'm trying to find a baitcasting reel for my husband for Christmas. He has stated that he likes a low profile reel. He also likes a ?side button? I am clueless. I have looked on the internet and can't really tell by the pictures what is what. I have also been looking in the $200 range. He fishes in brackish water so corrosion is a factor. Can any of you anglers out there help me find a good reel for my hubby?

Most of the guys here will swear by the Shimino Curado.
http://tinyurl.com/vz8v It is within your price range. For a little more you might look at the Chronarch. http://tinyurl.com/vz91 Both are good for bass rigs. I bought a used Curado off of EBAY (not good enough looking for a gift) and it performs very well. -- Bob La Londe Yuma, Az http://www.YumaBassMan.com Promote Your Fishing, Boating, or Guide Site for Free Simply add it to our index page. go to www.japantackle.com and get him a Scorpion 1000 (right handed retrieve) or 1001 (left handed). It is HANDS DOWN the best buy/performing low profile reel I have ever used. I don't know anyone who has one who doesn't agree. They don't have a "side button" but I bet your sweetie will be able to work past that one. They also come up frequently on ebay.

If your husband is fishing brackish water, make sure that any of the reels you
look at DO NOT have magnesium spools or frames. They do not like salt water. I would suggest a Curado. It has a one piece aluminum frame and aluminum spool. The body is graphite. Less to worry about corroding. These are great reels that will stand up to most fishing situations. However, don't limit yourself to japan tackle if you are seriously interested in a Scorpion. There are places that have them cheaper (new) besides EBay. Sorry, I forgot about Brooklyn Bill's. Wasn't trying to plug anybody, just knew
I had seen them at Japan Tackle. She should, of course, shop around. Jun at Japan Tackle does have a good reputation and I have purchased two reels from there and was very happy with them. They also offer service on Shimano Japanese models (I'm not sure, but I don't think Shimano US will service Japanese models). mhood Thundercat wrote: "mhood" wrote in message ... snip get him a Scorpion 1000 (right handed retrieve) or 1001 (left handed).
