I just put a new lower unit on my 175 Johnson. It has a grease fitting on the
front of it. I assume it needs grease but my manual shows it in the picture but does not say to grease it, what it is for or how you know if there is enough grease in it. Anyone know what it's for and how do you know when you have put enough grease in. Thanks, DM |

I add oil to my lower units, not grease. Generally the front of the lower
unit houses the intake for the speedometer. Warren "DM/GM" wrote in message ... I just put a new lower unit on my 175 Johnson. It has a grease fitting on the front of it. Could it be the grease fitting on the pivot pin?

That area also houses the impellor, which does get lubricated with grease
upon installation. Maybe this could be a reason? Rich P "go-bassn" wrote in message ... I thought hesaid "front of the lower unit"? Warren "Bob La Londe" wrote in message ... Under the prop on my Merc there are two grease fittings, an inner and
outer. The inner is partially hidden so have to look for it. These are for the gear housing bearing carrier, lubrication should be once a season with a multi-lube grease. Of course the prop has to be pulled to do this service. sket |
