... I'd go for a strap--just be sure that it is the correct width to fit the winch drum. It doesn't stretch and a twist is only a temporary problem. When the stitching goes rotten (after many years) replace it. Thanks Jimbo. Most people have suggested the strap and that is what I have purchased. The only common recommendation was that I replace the strap every year to prevent any mishaps. It sounds a bit funny doesn't it, but we mainly specialise in marine electronics such as radio's, fish finders, GPS etc. I don't know a great deal about cables or straps and it always pays to ask, if you are ever in doubt. BTW I didn't think the question was a daft one, but I thought I would get a lot of opinions so I asked both Aussies, UK and USA boaties to see what the general feel was. I firmly believe that it never hurts to listen to "real people" who use this gear every day rather than the "experts" at the factories who make them. Your answer makes sense to me Garrie. There again--I was an outboard
"techie" in a large Marina in on the Oregon Coast for 10 years or so. I always found it amazing that customers knew everything about their trucks but virtually nothing about their boats. They seemer to forget that it's a bit difficult to get roadside help in a boat. Send me a ticket to Aussie and I'll change your winch strap for free. Tight Lines "Garry Beattie" wrote in message ...
