I know polarized. but what else should I be looking for when replacing
my sunglasses? What color and brands are you using? I need opinions/sugestions before spring gets here and the water gets soft again. Thanks, Kurt |

If not, Coasta Del Mar, Ray Ban, Oakley and others make very good polarized shades. If you do, then price becomes an issues and you can look at your local Lens Crafters store. I got some Ray Ban polarized shades there a month or so ago and they weren't "that" badly priced. I think they came out to be a scosh over $240 and are prescription, mirrored and polarized. Work great. Prior to that I wore Oakleys, but their prescription offerings are few (with polarization) and quite expensive for *just* the frames, not factoring in the lenses. My only basic advice would be to go with a reputable brand since the likelihood of getting well shaped lenses with no or very little distortion is greater. The $10 polarized shades at Wal Mart cost that little for a reason...polarized, sure, but their optical clarity and distortion leaves a lot to be desired. |

Hi Kurt, I used to suscribe to the theory of buy the cheapest polarized sunglasses that you could find because inevitably they would be sat on, dropped overboard or otherwise trashed. Then one year, my kids chipped together and got me a pair of H30 sunglasses with interchangeable lenses. These cost around $50 and were surprisingly much better. They come with dark and light gray, plus amber lenses. I found that the amber lenses were being used 90% of the time, so I just stuck with them. I had a client loose his sunglasses so we went to the local tackle shop to get him another pair. All they had in stock was Costa Del Mar glasses. He plunked down the $100 bucks with much ribbing from me. After a while, we switched glasses because he kept raving about how much more he could see. I was amazed at the difference between my $50 glasses and the Costas. I went back and bought a pair and have been wearing them ever since. When I was at ICAST last July, I had a chance to try on some Kaenon glasses. I was VERY impressed with these as well. I found the frames to be quite comfortable and the optical clarity of the lenses was fantastic. Do you really need a pair of expensive sunglasses? I suppose that can only be answered by you. However, I think that as long as I have only one pair of eyes, I'm going to spend a bunch to protect them. The glare off the water can be brutal, I've found I suffer much less eye fatique and headaches since I've gotten better lenses. I've also found that when you drop in excess of $100 for a pair of sunglasses, you have a tendency to take better care of them too. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

I have used the FitOver brand for a couple of years, the trimmed down
version with gray lenses. Approx. $80. I like the side shield feature very much when on the water because it helps block the side glare and wind. People with contact lenses that have borrowed them are very pleased with the side shield effect. I use them with and without my prescription glasses. I have no problem with fit or comfort either way. I tried the fit-over concept because of several unsatisfactory attempts at using expensive prescription ground polarized sunglasses. I have stopped trying at this purchase for a while because I am not sure what I am expecting from the polarizing effect, perhaps I am expecting too much and it gets expensive to keep trying to get the million dollar man sight. sunglasses, you have a tendency to take better care of them too Man, that's the truth. I went thru clip-ons like they were socks, and finally bit the bullet 4 years ago and bought prescriptions. Havn't lost them, and they're still in one piece. Course, now I need bifocals...aarrghh |

What brand were those heavy polaroids that everybody had back in the early
80s? They were cheap, and they really gave excelent sharpness. They had glass lenses so they could chip if dropped on a very hard surface, but they did not wear like plastic or polycarbonate lenses. They did have plastic side lenese in the temples. -- Bob La Londe www.YumaBassMan.com All about fishing in Yuma, Arizona Promote Your Fishing Website FOR FREE "Kurt Bimler" wrote in message ... After having 2 sets of the Aviators, that I use to love break at the temple piece and finding out the short warrantee, and the hoops that had be gone through. No more. I like Costa Del Mars and www.1800lens.com had the best price. Lost my last set, and got some Bolles on sale at the local Big 5 store. Nice glasses. Were on sale for $40, from $80. Actually have bought 2 pairs this way. Left a set at Mom's and just bought another pair till I got back to her. Is about 35 miles 1 way. And need sunglasses. Bill |
