Actaully, Jason has had a site up for a long time (at least since 1998 from my email archive), he just didn't have a name registered for it (I don't remember when we added a link to his original site on aol, but it was before January 28th, 1999, which I found quick, due to computer swaps, I'd have to dig for earlier emails). There are dozens now, perhaps a hundred. As far as I know, Roger Taylor's Illinois Fishing Page (on a uiuc.edu server) was the first in Illinois, we started migrating our site from ftp via netcom to http on ripco in March, 1995. Roger found me and he and I traded emails and added links to each other in September of 1995 (his site used to be associated with Chauncey from the Trib I believe also). The first time the SunTimes or Chicago Tribune published articles mentioning our site was in 1996 (and they all messed up the "~" character in our name at the time... must be a typsetting thing). We still design our pages to work acceptably with lynx ;-) -- John Nelson ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chicago Area Paddling/Fishing Page http://www.chicagopaddling.org http://www.chicagofishing.org (A Non-Commercial Web Site: No Sponsors, No Paid Ads and Nothing to Sell) |

I thought I saw every one out there *oops* Took a looksie. Better get some imaging software. 24 - 34K thumbnail images - ugh. ===== There are dozens now, perhaps a hundred. If they start in January '05, I wonder what happens when there is ice and no water underneath LOL. |

Also, when I was a kid they had it completely drained (70's). We were there for a church picnic and my grandmother, wearing a white suit, fell into the only section of mud in the lake while I was dragging her with me to explore the (almost) dry bed (Course, maybe that was BullFrog lake... I was little then, but i'm pretty sure it was maple lake). Maybe the last work they did on Maple Lake was just Rotenone and restocking? -- John Nelson ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chicago Area Paddling/Fishing Page http://www.chicagopaddling.org http://www.chicagofishing.org (A Non-Commercial Web Site: No Sponsors, No Paid Ads and Nothing to Sell) |

They did put fish habitats in about three years back, but other than that nothing very "exciting". For those wondering, and heck, not wondering, Maple Lake is in Cook County IL and one of the better fishing lakes (from shore) as it has both shallow flats and steep drop offs available from the shoreline. It also gets weed choked (millfoil) in the shallower eastern side. Just rental row boats (no private) which keeps the overall pressure down somewhat. They keep trying to kill the weeds to no avail. Pike started getting stocked, I forget how far back, and it seems to be helping the gills get to a better "decent" size. Decent being a whopping 6 - 7''. Much better than the thousands upon thousands of 4'' ones way back when. Anyway back to their master plan - drain the lake about three feet, appply a different type of weed killer? and have volunteers pick up rubbish from the muck. Now, how in the frick will they do that with a frozen over lake? Once again the CCFP sits on their collective ass and waits too long. No word if the drawdown is still scheduled in January. I better hit it next week in case they do. Here's a short clip (`800k) of a crib (put in too deep (17') of water IMHO): http://www.ccfp-fishing.com/videos/MapleCrib_1.m1v |
