Following the tsunami earthquake in South East Asia, 'United for South
East Asia' website initiative has been started: http://southeastasia.united.co.uk In order to make this initiative known on the net, please consider adding a link on your website (if you have one). The goal of United.co.uk is to list Aid organizations and charities asking for money to provide clean water, food, shelter and medical supplies. Many thanks for your help and for your donations to Aid Organizations. www.united.co.uk |

While many despise the Red Cross, there's still the Salvation Army, UNICEF, and several other long time enduring organizations that we can all give to, rather than something that may be, uh, not as well organized (now isn't that a nice euphemism) for actually getting our dollars to the ones in need. The Red Cross has an international fund. We contributed to that and UNICEF. I think that in a really large-scale disaster like this, where there is a big inflow of money and a lot of it should be applied quickly, large organizations like this are best-suited to ramping up to meet the challenge, as long as they are not weighed down by bureaucracy. For instance, UNICEF has caches of filled water tanks in Asia for emergencies like this. |
