Default Best round reel.

Got a $30 off certificate from Cabelas. Have been thinking of a new casting
reel. What suggestions for a round type? Thinking Calcutta 251.

Sounds good to me, Bill. I got three of them and they are great.

A nice reel, I've had mine 9 -10 years now I guess with no problems at all.
If you need a little more capacity for $30 more the Diawa Millionaires are
also nice, with more bearings and a magnetic brake system, if you perfer
them.

....I'm partial to Abu Garcia....Morrum or C-4....bulletproof and a potential
family heirloom.

The Calcutta is a big improvement over any Abu I've ever fished with.

Now to figure if I
need a new rod, or convert one of the existing bunch.

Tsk, tsk.
You know the rules. New reels require new rods.

As I tell my wife, the reel seat on that old rod has conformed to the shape of
the reel foot of the reel that is now on it. The reel foot on the new reel
will not properly seat on that rod because it is shaped different and will
become loose and might fall off. Therefore, I will need a new rod for the new
reel.
