Today, on ESPN Classic, they broadcast the 1974 documentary entitled,
"Ted Williams And The Atlantic Salmon". In the film, Mr. Williams ties a fly called "The Conrad". What type of materials is used to make that fly, and what kind of fly is it trying to imitate? |

![]() "Lawrence Ressler" wrote in message ... Today, on ESPN Classic, they broadcast the 1974 documentary entitled, "Ted Williams And The Atlantic Salmon". In the film, Mr. Williams ties a fly called "The Conrad". What type of materials is used to make that fly, and what kind of fly is it trying to imitate? According to Bates, "Atlantic Salmon Flies and Fishing," 1995, p229, Charles Conrad marketed a fly called the "Conrad" with a " black body, wing and throat with silver oval ribbing and a fluorecent butt . . . " but that basic idea had been developed by Ira Gruber (Canadian tyer) as the almost identical "Black Spider" back in 1935. Id describe the "Conrad" as a "Blue Charm" but sub a black throat and hair wing, and minus the yellow tail. Dave Sndeker |
