![]() Here are some yellow sallies that I was playing around with last night. They are size 16's. The last one has a swiss straw (treated with Flexament) wing added as an afterthought over a body that's the same as the first two. I don't know how it will cast or how durable it will be, but I like the looks of it in the vise. (Yes, the head is messy; that's what I get for not planning ahead.) I'd appreciate comments (especially from the Nawth Cackalacky contingent): http://uweb.txstate.edu/~cv01/yellowsally01.jpg http://uweb.txstate.edu/~cv01/yellowsally02.jpg http://uweb.txstate.edu/~cv01/yellowsally03.jpg Chuck Vance |

I was thinking the very same thing (longer), so I pulled out some Orvis hooks I had stashed away (hey, I got 'em for less than half-price when the local shop closed down). These are 2X long hooks for dries (#1638?), and the proportions look better with them. I also made a conscious effort to keep the tails smaller, and in the process, the body is naturally slimmer. http://uweb.txstate.edu/~cv01/yellowsally02.jpg http://uweb.txstate.edu/~cv01/yellowsally03.jpg killer...bet it would be great at penns too. hackle and tail still a bit thick, imo... man, this is fun! truth be told, i've no idea what will work when you get here (it's what makes it interesting for me), but this opinion stuff is awful easy, ain't it. g Hey, that's what ROFF is all about. Hmmmm ... IIRC, an esteemed ROFFian librarian tied that same fly for a swap I took part in. Chuck Vance (who still hasn't fished the fly) |
