Fishing in USA and Canada

Hi

I live in the UK, but I have been watching some great fishing
programmes featuring some of your good spots.

The TV wetted my appettite so much that I plan to visit North America
for 4 - 6 weeks in 2006 to test some of your waters! I realise that I
have a lot of research to do to plan my trip but I thought that posting
in here could take some of that research pain away :-) I guessed that
some keen fishermen / fisherwomen in here would like to help plan my
trip?

I do both feshwater and sea fishing but prefer specimen fish (yep, I
have been know to sit all weekend under a bivvy hunting large carp - my
best to date is just short of 30 pounds). I don't do fly fishing - yet
- I plan to take some lessons this summer.

I could do with info about recommended spots, tackle, tactics, bait and
lures and quite importantly the best months to visit.

You'll get some good advice from a number of highly qualified folks
in this forum. What you call specimen fish we call trophy fish and
I suggest you plan to spend at least a week out of your 4-6 hunting
trophy smallmouth bass in Quetico Provincial Park, Canada. I think
it's some of the best "trophy fishing" available in North America.

You can hunt trophy brook trout in Labrador, trophy largemouth bass
in Florida and California. We don't appreciate the carp as much as
you guys do, (a shame really, it's a great fighting fish) so I'd
recommend you fish for other species while you're on this side of
the pond.

Louisiana has a little of everything. You can visit New Orleans, book a
charter fishing trip to the sal****er marshes around New Orleans and catch
speckle trout (sea trout) and reds in brackish waters and be back at your
hotel in time to party in the French Quarter. You can also freshwater fish
and go offshore to catch tuna and other species of fish. Look at

The famous Jazz Fest is always the last weekend of April and the first
weekend of May. It features all kind of music from rock, country , blues,
jazz, gospel and everything in between.
