I am taking my son and step son on Tueday for the first time.... all three
of us are complete novices... Last year I found 2 5ft "spinning rods" with reels (low quality) a float a hook and weights in a blister pack for £3.95 each.... They seem to be a good size for them and they're chuffed with them!! I have got a 12ft carp rod, a leeda merit 30 reel and a huge carp landing net.... all got on the cheap from the Argos staff sale by a friend... Gonna go out tomorrow and get the rest of the bits and bobs I need to get us all going on the Grand Union canal thats about 3 mins stroll from our house in Milton Keynes. My main worry is that we will catch nothing and they will lose interest and slate Dad for being rubbish!! Regardless of whether the lads wanna take it up or not I'm gonna stick with it and hopefully learn enough to get a few out. Then maybe they'll get more out of it as a pastime. Any advice on techniques would be good... Either way, i'll give you all the score when we're done... So fingers crossed for some good news and a good days fishing!! Regards Andy |

Regards Andy Good luck with the fishing trip Andy. You will have a fabulous time with the boys and the weather will be cracking. I'm off to Orchid Lakes tomorrow for a long weekend as opposed to simply strolling the 3 minutes walk from my house to the Grand Union! Dribbler |

This is the beauty of course fishing! - you can turn up with a few bits and pieces and spend a quid on maggots and have a good day catching one fish per maggot!....Me and my mate used to get a 'scoop' [1] of maggots for 20p between us and regularly caught 15 - 20 fish each...just four or five maggots as loose feed every twenty minutes was enough to keep them biting all day...another good bait for small fish is little pieces of cheese, it can be moulded around the hook and a few slices will last all day. [1] one scoop was an aerosol lid full ! -- If God had intended us to drink beer, He would have given us stomachs. |
