Default the perfect travel fishing rod?

Hi everybody,

I was recently wondering if anyone had designed a "perfect" travel
fishing rod? By "perfect" I mean perfect in the use of compromises to
achieve the best possible design for mutually contradictory tasks:
being adequate for surfcasting & sal****er fishing AND adequate for
freshwater fishing.

(I suppose that just from this question you can tell that I am very
much a newbie. But please be patient and bear with me).

Here is how I would see such a rod:

1) 8-10 feet long with three segments. For surfcasting the three
segments would be assembled for the full length of the rod. For
freshater fishing only two segments would be put together

2)the reel would have to be rather small and fit into a travel box

3) the travel box would include the collapsed rod, the reel, and a
small compartiment for tackle/lures/varia

4) the travel box (4 feet in length max) would need to be very sturdy
and capable of much abuse during travels

5) the price would have to be reasonable as such a "travel kit" could
not replace an angler's more specialized and expensive gear.

Again - this would be a rod which I could grab with me no matter where
I go and still know that it would be adequate (even if not perfect) for
any type of fishing. Something like a "Swiss Army Rod" :-)

Has something similar ever been done? If yes - could you post a link
to this product?

Thanks,

TW

You're kidding right? A moderate or mod fast actioned surf blank would be a
slow actioned heavy tipped/no backbone total piece of ----- as a 2 piece.
Which perfect travel golf club do you take with you to play 18 in Scotland
or Hawaii?
I know a few custom rod builders that can build you what your looking for in
a set of rods including the case, but they don't work cheap.
