Default GPS Installation

I have a Lowrance Global Map 2000 GPS and fish finder unit on my champion
bass boat currently. There's a button or two that's acting kinda funny and
Lowrance tells me the unit can no longer be repaired, but they will swap it
out for a not so bad price.

Here's my question. Can anyone tell me how many hours it should take to
remove the old unit, shoot through hull transducer etc and put the new one
in. I got a quote from a new service dept I've been using (their hours to
repair stuff seems to be all over the charts) and I can't believe it's
accurrate. Their estimate is $1009. and if their rate is like $50.00 an hour
that's half a dang work week! I'm not very mechanically minded, but I just
can't believe that's an accurrate price. Labor would be more expensive than
the similar unit I'd replace it with!

Anybody have any ideas. . . . and NO . If I tried to do it myself as
mechanically minded as I am it would blow the boat up first thing I turned
it on. So that's not an option for me.

I'm with Charles here Josh. If you can operate a baitcasting reel, doing a
thru-hull transducer wouldn't be *that* bad. ;-)

Honestly though, do you know for sure that the new unit isn't compatible
with the old transducer? Is it that old?

I do agree with your assessment of you service department. Unless I am just
way off base, $1000+ for a LCD install sounds outrageous. Even with a
shoot-thru transducer. They simply aren't *that* difficult to deal with IMO.
Running the wires can sometimes be a chore, but those guys are supposed to
be the pros and able to handle such things in shorter order than us average
joes, and not take so long that they tally up a huge bill like that...you
sure they weren't including the price of a new unit? lol

Probably only have to use the same transducer. Ask Lowrance. May just
require unplugging the present unit, and pluging in the new unit.

To give you an idea of how difficult a job it is, I did my ProCraft locator
install in the back alley behind the firehouse while on duty. Come to think
of it, that's where I installed the locator for my Cobra too. It's about a
two hour job max!

Wanna see your tax dollars at work?

Everyday there's an accident where an EMT risks his or her life in order to
save another.
Everyday there's a man or woman whos job it is to rush into a burning
building that others are rushing out of.

What do you do for a living?
How many lives have you changed?

What these guys do on their free time, which here in Nashville is minimal,
is most likely their way of coping with the disasters and horrors they see
every day. Remember, these are the guys that have to patch together car
wreck victims before an emergency room doctor ever sees them.

Don't disrespect your emergency responders. There'll be one there for you
when you need it... even if they have to stop working on their boat to help
you.

Wow! You almost sound like you have a clue.

Or stop working on whatever other venture they may pursue

Buh bye
