Default Life jackets?

Do any of you use the self inflating life jackets? If so what type and why?
Do you have any problems with them inflating while its raining? I've got to
start using something like this and don't want junk so to speak. Thanks,

I've been using Sospenders for about five years now. The ones I have you
must pull a tab to inflate them. They are extremely comfortable and when
fishing alone they are always on. Well worth the investment IMHO. Bill P.

YEP, I use the Sospenders brand that are manual and self inflating for
many years. I have fished in some heavy rainstorms and never had it
self inflate but this last spring at the MTC I threw it in the back of
someones pickup when I got in to back it down the ramp. I did not pay
attention to the fact that the front of the pickup was lower than the
back and the back was full of water. Well, you guessed it. When the
water went rushing to the back it hit the life jacket and it inflated
nice as could be. When I bought mine I bought an extra re-arming kit
with it. Mine came with an extra cartridge but not with an extra
little water activated tablet that makes it self inflating, that is
part of the re-arming kit.

I would not be without the self inflating version. I am too clumsy to
chance sinking while trying to find the pull tag :}

Thanks,

I have a couple autoinflating Sospenders. Not having run in much rain
(until this morning) I can say I have never had a problem with them
autoinflating in the rain. (They didn't inflate this morning either.) I
also have not had them accidently inflate fishing Lake Mead in high wind and
heavy waves with spray coming over the bow on every wave.

I have had one accidently inflate when it fell off the back deck of the
boat. I also had one inflate when the guy who was recarpeting my boat
decided to play with them.

The dissolveable tablet that causes it to inflate when submerged is inside
the vest near the bottom. when submergd water runs in and it foes off
pretty quickly, but its pretty well sheltered from surface moisture such as
rain or spray.

I'm not saying it can't go off unexpected ly, but its a pretty decent
design, that is unlikely too under normal circumstances.
