The combination of the two boggles the mind, yo. And here I thought I had you pegged! :-) Back to the drawing board, B (who just watched the first few minutes of this guy doing his take on the Pardoner's Tale. Ouch.) NPR just covered the story (after a rather lengthy disclaimer about bad language, adult themes, etc.) about fifteen minutes ago on "All Things Considered," complete with a couple of excerpts and a reading of part of the original as counterpoint. The commentator pointed out that the strange sound of Chaucer's work was due in part to its having been written before the great vowel shift. Given that the often scatological material in the original was cleaned up considerably by Mr. Brinkman, in marked contrast to the standard fare offered by rappers, one is surprised that no reference was made to the great bowel shift. Wolfgang wondering where carlin is when you really need him. |
