Default mishap

I had a little mishap last evening while fishing. I was taking off a fish from
a triple treble minnow plug. I had my pliers on the trailing hook trying to
remove it by a backward push. The fish suddenly thrashed and the middle treble
hook went right through the finger near the knuckle. I managed to free the
fish. I had rapala pliers so i managed to release the treble from the lure via
the split ring option on the pliers. The pliers weren't sufficient to cut the
hook at the barb.
I managed to get to the doctor to get hook removed.
This is going to happen again. Thinking of taking my bolt cutters and look for
a gripper to better secure the fish.I would use the bolt cutters if i could
safely remove the hook. It is possible to jack your hand by doing nerve damage.
A muskie lad told me he didn't like grippers since the put your hand close to
the trebles.

All i was doing is passing on my experience to the group in the hopes it may
help someone. Tonight i'm taking long handle forceps, rapala glove and bolt
cutters.
As a further note I don't think you should be swearing on the newsgroup.

Regardless of some animosity towards the source of this message...one point
should be made...

Cutting the hook off near the puncture is NOT a good tactic. That is
assuming you can't or won't pull it out yourself.

I cut the hook, near the puncture, to free a buddy's hand from his dangling
lure. When we got to the emergency room, they didn't have enough hook
sticking out to get a proper grip on it. It took more cutting and more
stitches to do him up right.

Think of it this way,,,if you were going to pull a small tree out of the
ground, you wouldn't cut it off to the stump. You would leave enough trunk
to get a grip on. Leave the whole hook on if you are heading towards the ER.

You need to carry an acetylene/oxygen torch to properly free a "lads" hook from
his fingers. You can always return it to Walmart when you are done. In a
pinch, you can scare off those nasty wolves with it and light your crack pipe at
the same time. Be *very* careful! There might be a disclaimer for those of you
who are clinically insane...

This hook went right through the skin on my finger. I went to the Doctor with
the entire treble in tact since i released the hook at the O ring. She cut the
hook at the shank and pulled it out from the point/barb side. My finger is a
bit puffy now but i don't think it is infected. The Doctor also gave me a
tetnus shot. There was no charge.
