Badger Anti-Bug Balm

I purchased the Badger Anti-Bug Balm in a roll-on after years of using Deet
or Cutters repellent
This will be the first time using a Badger product after reading positive
reviews.
Also have a mosquito head net as a back-up.
Any users of the Badger Anti-Bug Balm?

Hate to be a wet blanket, but looking at the ingredients, I would say
this stuff won't be too effective. I have only found two products that
work in "bug country"........100% DEET and Cutters Advanced. I am
currently using the Cutters, mainly because it purports to have fewer
side effects, and is not harmful to waders and fly lines. I find it as
effective as DEET against mosquitos, and slightly less effective
against blackflies and deer flies.

With 5% citronella oil the Badger Balm might be effective
against mosquitoes but for biting flies give me the DEET
every time.

Yesterday I gave Cutter's Advanced a try in the Sierras. The first,
light application did very little in repelling mosquitos. Second
application was heavier/wetter, and worked much better, but didn't last
very long....maybe 2-3 hours. Third application was the heaviest, and
this seemed to work well for to 2-3 hours I had left of the day. I'll
note two things. The bugs are thick this year. I seem to always be the
first and last to get bit by mosquitos.

In Alaska, I used DEET repellent. There weren't very many mosquitos that
time of year(Sept), but the biting gnats were bad. DEET helped, but it
certainly didn't stop my ears from throbbing the first few days. After
that, it didn't seem to bother me all that much. I'm glade to see you're
taking a head net. I would've loved to have one on my trip.

Hey, that might work against the skeeters and flies...

but looking at the ingredients, I would say
this stuff won't be too effective. I have only found two products that

I looked at them, too, and I have no idea if they work, but they seem
much like other such products - wa-a-a-a-a-y overpriced. 8.00USD for 2
oz. of, er, vinaigrette ("extra virgin olive oil?") and wax?! It would
seem that one could make quite a bit of the stuff for that. Ah, well,
it is organic AND extra virgin olive oil...

Anyhoo, this stuff reminds me of Avon's "Skinsoft" or whatever it's
called - it kinda works, but not for being active in a lot of bugs. We
used to use citronella oil wicks and candles," but have switched to
propane-fired CO2 producer traps ("Mosquito Magnets") in recent years
because the citronella was better than nothing, but didn't work as well.

I'd be interested in the test results, though...
