Why is it you search the internet for something (Fly Fishing in this case) and when you get into a forum, there is always some clown filling the pages with none related items. Political ideas are not what people are coming here for. RW's political rant serves absolutely no purpose on a Fly Fishing Forum. It is a distraction intended on eliciting a response and ends up with in a typed battle of ideas. I manage a web site that has many discussion boards and I think it is important to keep boards on topic or you end up with a useless board. I am going out on a limb here but is not the intent of a forum like this to be a place for people to share ideas (ON THE TOPIC) and to keep a board that information flows free and people want to visit? The internet is gumbled with enough crap that one would hope that a topic board would be a forum for the desired topic. Administrators, you can curb this by deleting none relating threads. Keep politics out of my fly box.

Please excuse my rant.

You mean like this post of yours? I see no FF stuff here.

Political ideas are not what people
are coming here for.

Gee, I dunno. ROFF has been around a while. You haven't.

RW's political rant serves absolutely no purpose
on a Fly Fishing Forum.

Perhaps, but does your commentary on rw's post serve a purpose on a FF
forum?

It is a distraction intended on eliciting a
response and ends up with in a typed battle of ideas.

Such a horrible thing. The free exchange of ideas. What a nightmare.

I manage a web
site

Wow, you are very impressive.

that has many discussion boards and I think it is important to
keep boards on topic or you end up with a useless board.

Thanks for your unsolicited, off topic comments.

I am going out
on a limb here

Please, further out on the limb. Just another foot or two.

but is not the intent of a forum like this to be a place
for people to share ideas (ON THE TOPIC) and to keep a board that
information flows free and people want to visit?

I dunno, ROFF seems to be doing just fine.

The internet is
gumbled with enough crap that one would hope that a topic board would
be a forum for the desired topic.

I suppose, but you aren't helping at all.

Administrators, you can curb this by
deleting none relating threads.

There are no admins.

Keep politics out of my fly box.

Even when politicians go into your fly?

Please excuse my rant.

Only if you excuse all the other rants here.

Then one would perhaps come to the fork in the road where you either would
understand the difference between a hosted forum and a usenet group, or are
simply clueless.

Rant excused, it's a rookie's lament.

Do you agree that there is more to flyfishing than simply catching fish?
If you should happen to go fishing with a friend, do you really constrain all
conversation for the duration of your trip to the subject of fishing?

There are good reasons why usenet naifs should lurk for a few weeks or months
before considering posting such complaints.

One, you'd then know there is no sentient entity that will filter this group,
or edit the posts thereon, on your behalf. That's your job - as is showing
self-control when appropriate.

Two, you'd know this place has a long history of tolerating political debate.

And three, you'd know better than to think of this place as *your* "fly box",
when you're actually just one of the flies...

Lylesrob,

ROFF Is about fishing but also what folks talk about while fishing which
is to say everything. Now you are correct that there are people here
that are considerably more noise than signal. As a solution go find a
(free) news reader program that allows you to filter out said people
and keywords that you don't wish to see. This morning on ROFF there were
435 new articles and my filters killed 300 of them by name or subject
making the remaining stuff pretty much about fishing.

For my part I'm using MT-Newswatcher on a Mac and it works pretty.

Cheers,

Allen

I will if you'll help Mike Connor carry another load of his ego out with
you when you go. If he has to continue to do it all alone, it appears
he'll never be able to get it all moved out, and he REALLY wants nothing
more to do with this place...

TIA,

So who's the Administrator this week ? It can't be my turn
again already. Scott ? Cyli ? Janik ? C'mon guys and gals
somebody's *got* to take charge around here. And the first
thing you should do is correct the misspelled word in the
Subject: of this thread before you delete it.

Now, hang on a sec...ROFF may be missing out on a golden opportunity.
Lyle runs a website or something, so he's got all sorts of curb
experience and stuff like that. Why not just make him permanent
administrator (or at least for as long as he wants the job)? I'm sure
it'll be very interesting to watch for all the exciting changes such a
person can bring to ROFF.

What say, Lyle? You sound like a real sport, and well, if I may be so
bold, one damned fine fellow. Is there room in schedule for helping
your fellow flyfishers who may have wandered from the true path? Care
to accept the post of "permanent ROFF administrator?"

Awaiting the results,
R
