I'm looking for any recoomedations folks may have about guides for the Bow
river in and around Calgary and also up int he Banff - Lake Louise area. I expect to spend two days floating the Bow below Calgary and 3 or 4 days up in the Rockies with a good bit of time for wading streams. Any guides or services anyone has experience with would be good information to get before I start spending money. Thanks. Steve Kling |

Any guides or services anyone has experience with would be good information to get before I start spending money. You might want to check out this forum for advice: http://flyfishalberta.com/boards/index.php?showforum=3 It is run by a guide service in the area, so it may not be totally impartial, but from what I've seen of it, there's a lot of good discussion on fishing in the area, and there are several guides who participate. Also, from what I know, the Bow around Lake Louise and Banff is not particularly productive water. It's beautiful, for sure, but that close to the headwaters, it's lacking in nutrients that make the lower Bow so good. You might want to explore some from around Canmore downriver, as that's supposed to be where the fish population starts to really increase. FWIW, I'll be heading up that way (Calgary) at the end of August, but I'm considering bypassing the Bow altogether to spend some time on the Highwood near Longview. I know the Bow is the Mecca for trout fisherpeoples in Canuckistan, but despite that (or maybe *because* of that considering the week I'll be there is a holiday), I'm thinking it might be more fun (and scenic) on the Highwood than on its bigger cousin. Anyhow, everyone says you need a guide on the Bow, especially below Calgary, so good luck. Chuck Vance |
