Is it my imagination, or does Vanish fishing line greatly reduce your
casting distance? Even with a Chronarch baitcaster.

Berkley Vanish is pretty scary stuff. It seems to break way to easy, and
not cast very well for me. Of course certain people will blame me for
taking it out in the sun to actually fish with it. LOL.

I have had poor results with Berkley Vanish and Berkley Iron Silk. Iron
Silk does cast well, but breaks for me for no apparent reason. Vanish
breaks even easier and does not cast well.

Berkley Big Game is a decent old style monofilament if you want to stay with
Berkley, and most of the old Trilene line now owned by Berkely still
performs as labeled. XL is limp and casts well, XT is tough, but a little
stiffer. Both seem to meet their line test ratings as labeled. I have
caught a lot of fish with them in the past.

For Flourocarbon I like Seguar in 12lb and larger. For smaller I like the
Maxima. Have not used the larger sizes of Maxima.

For mono I use almost exclusively Suffix Seige.

For braid I like Stren Super Braid, but I have had a few suprises with it in
20 & 30 lb. I am considering going back to Power Pro for the smaller sizes.

Best of luck with whatever you choose. As you might guess from my opening
comment some folks will have different levels of success with the same
lines.

Actually, it increases my casting distance. The lure travels a lot
farther, when it's no longer connected to the line because the knot broke.

Sigh.

I read the first sentence of the response with that quizzical look
that you might get from your dog. I wondered quietly if Mr. Z had lost
the remainder of his faculties. The second sentence was priceless. My
best giggle of the day in a day that needed it. Thanks Rich!

Get a grip, Harry! Real men don't giggle.

Guffaw, laugh, chuckle, hoot, snort, bray, snicker, or even chortle... but
refrain from giggling!

(Rich's comment was pretty funny, though.)

I use 17lb. Vanish for my Jig & Pigs & have had no trouble with the line breaking. ( Had the same line on all year) And since this presentation does not require long casts that isn't an issue either.

No Steve. I agree with you. If I never expose it to sunlight I am unlikely
to have it break on me. Does starlight or moonlight affect it the same way?
LOL
