Based on the location, I think that could be Paul Williamson - a nice
guy and great fly tyer, but very thin skinned. Some people find this
looney bin overwhelming, and some find it invigorating. One of those
groups is missing something.

one of the things I have always found amusing on that particular site(FAOL)
is that the administrators/owners will gladly ram their opinion regarding
God, politics or the military down the throats of their readers, but shun
controversy from the posters. I found that part rather repugnant......

No doubt there is a use for an informational, exclusively on-topic BB; but
just as I don't flyfish solely to catch fish; I don't hang out with fellow
anglers just to talk about fishing. I don't read the FAOL board, but if
they truly do censor OT controverisal stuff, I doubt I'd have much use for
them. As one whose fishing frequency hovers around "rarely", I'd have very
little to contribute.

For those inclined to organize their lives around the principle of a
perceived need to be punished, a place devoted exclusively to polite
discussion of fly fishing will do as well as any other, I suppose.
And there is no arguing the obvious fact that many people evince a
genuine....and even desperate....need for protection from the ravages
of "rec.outdoors.flyfishing."

Wolfgang
who will nevertheless confess that the notion of hell as a refuge
still leaves at least one reader somewhat bemused.

I agree. Everyone on that site is so polite and afraid to step on the
toes of the owners/administrators that it sometimes seems to be a
fantasyland. The owners, however, have very strong opinions and, as
Tom notes, are not afraid to get up on the soapbox and rant. I
occasionally visit FAOL, and get the feeling I am on the "Stepford
Flyfishing Site".

Bull****! A man your age has a vast amount of information to pass on. It's
a matter of whether you can remember any of that info or not. :~^ )

Agreed. He could, for example, tell us what is the best knot for
attaching fly line to leader (no disrespect to Timmay or his arguably
more complex than absolutely necessary candidate intended).

It's a matter of whether you can remember any of that info or not. :~^ )

Brings to mind the oft repeated advice to look for something where one
last saw it. All well and good if one can recall what and where it
was.

Joe,
You should do better than "rarely" so should I. You and Gene C. and I
need to get together and fish a bit this year.
