I fished the Big Horn a couple of years ago. Wonderful water and big
rainbows and browns.

The LBH National Monument is off of I-90, maybe a 45 minute drive
north and east of the Big Horn.

Read something the other day that reminded me of you:

"A man must properly pay the fiddler. In my case it so happened that
an entire symphony orchestra has to be subsidized."

Can you fish in, or really, from the park area?

i have no clue, richard. i just think it would be neat to fish in an
area so full of history.
now that i think of it, the place could be located within a crow
reservation...

It would be, and the river has fish, but as to accessing it from the
park, ??? I mean, it's PUBLIC land, so just who the **** do you think
you are? Now, if you have yer TU hat and proof of a large
contribution...

....and speaking of reservations, remind me some time to tell you about
dove hunting (as an invited guest) on one...suffice it to say it was
like Argentina or Mexico.

now that i think of it, the place could be located within a crow
reservation...

It is, or at least adjacent to it - I'm not sure what the rules are
about such.

I was there three years ago. It didn't look fishy so I did the
tourist and fished in the Bighorn river. Evidently there is fish in
the LBH.

If I go back I'll look a little closer.
If you fish the Big Horn take a pontoon boat, access can be a problem.

The battlefield is on the Little Big Horn, which flows into the Big Horn,
and is pretty much just a warm water fishery.

Most of it is on the rez, except for maybe the last 40 miles before it
reaches the Yellowstone. Living and fishing in MT my entire life
(Billings), I never got into the Bighorn fishing thing.

As Bob stated, it's a warmwater fishing environment. Though the trout
get big, they often act sluggish and unhealthy, and if you were to eat a
fish from the waters, the meat is applesauce-mushy and tastes funny due
to water temp.

If you find yourself in that area, I'd suggest driving a couple of
hours west and fishing the cool, clear mountain streams where even the
smaller trout battle like champs. Not to mention the scenery is MUCH
better. Many areas on the 2 Bighorns are treeless plains and miserably
hot. But if you like touristy stuff...there you go.

All that said....Custer died for your sins.

well, i didn't ask about the bighorn. my inquiry concerned the little
big horn, and was limited to the two or three miles which flow through
the custer battlefield.

it was miserably hot the only time i fished the madison, and it was
still amazing. again, for the limited purposes of my inquiry, i am
not concerned about the quality of the scenery. i was simply
interested in a very small, even unique, piece of historically
significant water. now, have you ever fished there, or do you know
anyone who has?

btw, you don't know me, but i can promise you i am not "touristy". i
consider the ground that makes up the custer battlefield to be a very
significant part of the history of a people for whom i have a great
deal of respect.

All that said....Custer died for your sins.

no, bud, custer died because he was an arrogant yankee dumbass.
