Having been given a gift certificate for a digital camera, I wonder if
anyone in this group have any experience with the Olympus 770??

Other suggestions will be appreciated.

TIA. Jack

I'm tempted to give it high marks. I've bought quite a few Olympus cameras,
both point & shoot & digital, and I've been wonderfully happy with the
results of each one for functionality & quality. Then I got to thinking
that the reason I've bought so many is because they stopped working on me &
I needed a new one. I swear, I've never damaged a one, but they all up and
quit on me after a year or three. I have a Canon now, but it's only a few
months old, so the jury is still out on that..

Canon's......if the light is sufficient.

I'll agree with that. The main reason I havent posted GFS2007 pix is
because I haven't been satisfied with what I've shot with the Canon. It
must be said, however, that I'm working near the cheap end of the P&S line,
a Powershot A530.

I have both a Canon (A75....2 years old) and an Olympus (Camedia D-535.....3
years old). The Canon cost about $40 more than the Olympus and has a lot
more features, but I think Wayno is right about the glass. The quality of
the Olympus photos surpasses that of the Canon........mostly.

There is one major problem, though. The meter in the Olympus gets really
stupid in low light. Around dusk, in a poorly lit room, or in dense shade,
it can't decide what to focus on so it typically chooses pretty much
nothing.

On the other hand, the Olympus macro function is far superior to the
Canon's......if the light is sufficient.

None of which helps the OP with his question, but......welcome to ROFF!

The Olympus 770 and the Pentax Optio WP are the two most popular small point
& shoot waterproof digital cameras today.

Perfect for most fly fishers.
