8/12 - Sunday - Day 222
Flint River Bass Club - Bartlett's Ferry - watrer temp 88 on main lake, 82 up the river. Hot bright day. Was almost late - partner did not show up to meet me - I waited on him for 15 minutes. I was last boat in the water. Started at 6:00 AM - still dark. Went to a rocky bank where the river channel swings in right by it. Fished down it past some brush, grass beds and docks. Got a 11 inch throwback in front of a dock as it got light at 6:45 on a Texas rigged worm. Got to a main lake point between the river and a big creek and started to leave but decided to fish it. Saw some fish down in 18 feet or so - worked a jig head worm around the point. As I started up the creek side I felt a tug and set the hook. Fish jumped twice but I managed to land it - one in the livewell at 7:30 Worked the point for 30 minutes longer without another bite. At 8 ran up the river into a side channel where the river splits - this channel is about 100 feet wide and lined with wood cover. I started with a weightless worm and got a bunch of hits from bream and small bass - did not hook any. Could see them in the water - pretty clear. Switched to a Mag 2 worm wth a 1/16 ounce lead and got a bunch of bites. Went thru a whole pack of worms becase tails got broke off when I set the hook. Did catch a few 11 inch spots. I pitched to a log and got a bite. when I set the hook I felt something but did not hook up. Worm came flying back and fell in water right by boat. When I reeled in something was swimming off with it. I set the hook and pulled a bass to the surface and it came off. Looked like a keeper. I rigged the worm back and dropped it down beside the boat and some thing grabbed it and started swimming off. When I set the hook straight up I hit an overhanging limb - missed the fish. Straightened the worm out and dropped it back down beside the boat and got another hit - this time I landed an 11.5 inch spot - guess the fish was holding in the shade of the boat because it kept moving - slight current and 82 degrees here. Water was only 4.5 feet deep. Weird fish - I tried dropping down under boat several more times but no hits. Fished up the river until 11:30 when the idiot skidoos started running the little channel - ignoring the Georgia law about staying 100 feet from a boat. Decided to hit main lake point for last hour - we were quitting at 1 PM. On the way out of the channel met some skidoos and the idiots went to my right - meeting me on the wrong side. Not only do they not have a clue about what 100 feet is, they don't know their right from their left. Got a couple of thumps on the point but didn't hook up. At weigh in took three weighing 4 pounds to win. Second place was one fish weighing 2.4 and it was big fish. One guy had 2 at 2 pounds but came in 14 minutes late and lost half of his weight. Said he got lost coming in. . My 1.55 pounder was third, fourth ws .91 and fifth was . 88. That was it, only seven people fished and one zeroes. Very tough day. Ronnie http://fishing.about.com |
